The Peninsula of Varadero is famous for ist 20 kilomters large white beach and the huge amount of beach resorts and hotels, mostly situated directly on the Varadero beach. Varadero is situated near the city of Matanzas, about 150 kilomters east of the cuban capital La Habana. The newer Varadero Airport is not directly in Varadero, where the older runway was to near to the Hotels and Beach resorts.

Map of Cayo Coco, Central Cuba

Taking a view on the Cayo Coco Map you will notice that Cayo Coco Island is situated in the northern cost of central Cuba and not not to far from southern Bahama Islands. Typical for the northern cuban coast is the large chain of smaller and larger CAYOS, mostly unspoiled keys, called Jardines del Rey (Kings Gardens). Cayo Coco is not an completely isolated island, because cuban authorities constructed a large causeway (locally called pedraplen) which connects Cayao Coco with the mainland near Moron and Ciego de Avila, whith its International Airport. Another Pedraplen (causeway also connetcs Cayo Coco with Caya Guillermo, with also very attractive Beaches, Hotels and resorts. It is not exactly proven, if the name "Coco" results from the coconut trees on the island or the locally called "coco-bird". Cayo Coco is very famous for its white crystaline beaches and some of the best beach resorts in Cuba. Travellers arrive directly at the Cayao Coco Airport (IATA Code CCC) or on the Ciego de Avila Airport on the nearer mainland.
